Visiting choirs are warmly welcomed to sing at the cathedral while the cathedral choir is in recess. If you would like more information about bringing a choir to sing at the cathedral, please contact the Director of Music, Michael Fulcher

Sunday 10.00am Choral Eucharist

Welcome to the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul. We are delighted that you are able to lead our worship and we very much look forward to having you with us this morning. Please approach a member of the Music Department or a Verger with any questions you may have.

Rehearsals in the stalls can begin any time after 8.50am, but must be over by 9.45am. The organist should then play ‘repertoire’ until just before 10.00am.

  • The choir assembles in the South Ambulatory at 9.55am for prayer
  • Just before 10.00am, the Dean addresses the congregation and announces the processional hymn, at which point the organist gives a long play-over
  • The choir reverences the altar, led by the chorister sitting on the east end front row of Cantoris, turns and remains standing
  • Welcome by the Dean

  • NB At this point the choir can either return to the stalls to sing the COMMUNION MOTET or go (via the Choir Room) to the Minstrels’ Gallery. If you wish to use the Minstrels’ Gallery, please ensure that you return to the stalls promptly via the Vergers’ doors in the Chancel
  • An organ piece/improvisation may be necessary, the Dean will indicate when he is ready to proceed

You are able to rehearse in the stalls at any time during the afternoon, but your rehearsal must be completed by 4.45pm. The organist should then play ‘repertoire’ until just before 5.00pm.

  • Just before 5.00pm the organist should improvise for the choir and clergy processions. Please stop when all are in their places and the choir is ready to sing:
